Founded in 1997, the Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) is an independent, non-partisan policy research centre based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Our core focus areas address poverty dynamics, social protection systems, local governance reform, public health financing, primary education quality, and sustainable urban transition frameworks.
Under the leadership of Executive Chairman Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, PPRC works to establish a vital link between field realities and national policy decisions. Long-running empirical data can anchor effective social policy reform.
The State of the Real Economy (SORE) survey is PPRC's flagship longitudinal panel study. Initiated as a response to sudden macroeconomic shifts, the panel monitors the same 3,000 households across selected urban high-density settlements and representative rural unions in Bangladesh.
The study uses co-located diary logging, caloric calculations, and direct income/expenditure interviews to capture subtle shifts inside marginal household structures that random, cross-sectional state surveys regularly miss.
